About Us
Hello Everyone!!
Around 67 million tonnes of food is wasted every year only in India. Annually 21 million metric tonnes of wheat rots in India, a figure close to Australia’s annual production.
According to Bombay Municipal Corporation, Mumbai generates close to 94 hundred metric tonnes of solid waste per day from which 73% is food waste and only 3% of plastic. The garbage dumps are as tall as 5 or 6 storey buildings. This is the root cause of clogged drains, soil and water pollution.
We are the Food Saviours, and we aim to work for eradicating the root cause of food wastage.
‘Every Grain Counts'
Let us start this journey by learning more about us, the food saviours

Document what has been thrown away by students on one
day at school:
Unfortunately, we all have been going through a tough time due to this pandemic, the reason for online classes. Hence, we could not document what has been thrown away by the students on a day in our school. However, to resolve this very issue, we had taken a few interviews of the public to know more about the wastage of food during this lockdown, which are documented above and had conducted a few activities listed in the 'Research- Maintenance of Dairies' section located just after this segment. Due to this pandemic, we are happy to say that the food wastage has been minimized to a great extent because every student is continuing his studies through their own homes. We hope to succeed in ending this evil pandemic and relive our normal lives which were way better than what we are facing now.

8. How can food wastage be prevented / reduced in a supermarket or a grocery shop? Add any three suggestions to do so. (interview)
Head's Ans: Yes, first of all, we at royal, aim for the benefit of people as well as do not want the food to be wasted, so we keep perishables in fridges like paneer, milk etc. Then, we keep fragile items like eggs and pickles in glass bottles out of reach of children.
We can buy the stock in bulk, then, we can also reduce the number of coupons because the customers buy the food using coupons but do not actually consume it. Then we can donate the excess food to the Robin hood army. We can actually reduce the storage temperature.
Last but not the least, we try to keep the stock which had come earlier first, like the bread which came on 10th would be placed in front of the one which came on 11th.

In this chart, the lesser the values, the more is the wastage of food. We can notice that the highest value is 100, which means that no food is wasted. Whereas, in the chart below, showing values for the implementation of the nine tips, it shows that more the value, more is the implementation, like, the highest value is hundred, which shows that that particular activity is implemented very regularly.
Summary (of the diaries of the wastage of food):
This is a very interesting activity, and it gave us a wonderful opportunity to interact with our family members. We conducted a group meeting and discussed the wastage of food. We got to know that it is an extremely important topic altogether. While we notice that only very little food is wasted by each one of us, we started to wonder how much food must have been wasted by all the citizens of India that day. Noticing that the Population of India was 135.26 crores as per 2018, even if each Indian wasted one small lentil that day. It would be a wastage of 135.26 crores of lentils, which is a gigantic number. Raghuram wasted a little amount of food, His mother and father also wasted very little amount of food, Same is the case with Ananya and Amaan. We took a pledge to not waste any food from then and have been following it ever since. The video below shows the Editor's effort to bring innovation in his society. I made a video on how to prepare a compost easily at home.
Summary (of the dairies of the implementation of the 9 tips):

Summary of First Video conference:
The interaction with our sister school went very smoothly. It was completely fun attending the first video conference with our partner school in Netherlands. We finally found out the hidden answers to all the questions lingering in our minds which was possible only due to this interaction. The interaction was successful, and the overall experience was marvelous.
Evidences of our communication with Partner School
We had quite fruitful discussions on WhatsApp. We exchanged our ideas on general as well as Project-related topics.
Video Conference - Round two (03/02/2021)
Just like the first video conference, this one was also a booming success. We learned many things from the video conference. We learned about how Carmel School works towards saving food. Also we got to know how they were dealing with the lockdown. We learned about many different ways for spreading awareness among people for saving food. Also we got to know many new words of English Language which increased our vocabulary as they spoke English very fluently. All in all, it was a great experience. They had done great work towards EUMIND which was clearly visible in how they spoke about their topics.

How did you prepare the Videoconferences?
We were attending the video conferences from home due to the reason very prevalent. You guessed it right! The Covid-19! So, there was nothing to set up much in the school, however, we learnt our parts well and equipped our minds with all the info written in the weebly page just to answer the questions asked properly. Last but not the least, we did research about the Dutch people, their language, their culture, etc. to know them better!

In conclusion, we think that we have many things in common like contacting the supermarket head through Social Media, but with some differences, like they throw away the food waste produced at school, but we don't. We think that we were quite similar in our ideas of implementation too and followed the nine tips well!
We intend to make a difference in the way people treat food and the figures of food wastage!

Reflection
Leader: It was a great experience working in this project. I had been a part of EUMIND last year, but this was a whole new level. We got a new topic which was completely unexplored. We had done a lot of hard work to complete this project and for this, I appreciate the group. We will surely be looking forward for awesome projects like this.
Editor (Me): In these trying times, when everyone is locked up at home, we are so glad to have a chance to interact with the sutdents of an entirely different country, Netherlands. Those buddies of ours were very honest and firm about their comments leaving behind some jokes. Even though, save food is a completely new topic and it was quite difficult to do our job as there was no reference, we surely tried to do our best and I think both the groups (Ours and our sister school's) did succeed in doing our job. I thank the teachers of our school for helping us a lot!
Compiler: It was a wonderful experience. The interviews, the interactions, the research work, mind-boggling questions, etc were very fantastic. I just loved the way we could actually talk to the people living in Netherlands! I felt awe at how the interviewees responded to our questions and the in-depth research by opur group was fabulous. I just loved the whole thing.
Videographer: I think this is one of the best projects ever! EUMIND is simply awesome! I loved working in this project and i gained a lot of information like many facts about food wastage, the figures of food wasted every day, etc. I felt bad for the poor and the needy because they are the sufferers of our wastage of food.
Photographer: I loved being a part of this project. I look forward to participate in many such events hereafter. I think food wastage is a huge problem and we need to find a solution for it. The group has undertaken and listed out many methods which can surely be taken up, remembering, the change always starts from you! Let us become the change we wish to see in our world!
What went well? What would you do differently?
Almost everything went well with fruitful discussions and interviews, good amount of research and a lot of fun and enjoyment. We just loved the EUMIND project.
We would like to change our topic if we were given a chance to do differently because doing the same thing again is like BORING! So, we would change the topic and with improved experience in EUMIND, we would like to put up even better benchmarks and give tougher competition!

Overall Reflection!
We were mesmerized with the capabilities of this project, which has led to a lot of good memories. We learnt a lot of things from this project and the research done by us. Though this topic: Save Food, is a new one, I (Raghuram) think we managed to do well! The interactions with our friends in Netherlands were awesome. Co-ordinating as a strong team, Learning to create a website through a remarkably simple website, realizing the importance of food and the impact of food wastage on different sections of life, and finally resolving the problem by providing a solution are a few of the things we learnt from this enormous project. We would like to appreciate all the team members for their huge contributions towards this project. Leader, for coordinating with all of us. Editor, for editing the website and looking after the content. Compiler, for organizing the content and giving it to the editor. Videographer, for wonderfully recording all the sessions, and the photographer, for providing us with the photos which played a crucial role.
Every new beginning, comes from some other beginning’s end"
With this quote, I would like to thank this project and all its organizers for providing this wonderful opportunity to us. We thank our beloved school and its eminent teachers for spending their valuable time in helping us out and guiding us throughout this exciting journey like a lantern in the dark. We thank the interviewees and our Netherlands friends who have also played a vital role in this project’s completion. We enjoyed a lot working with our sister school in Emmen. All in all, it was a Stupendous experience!
Goodbye! Meet you Soon again!
Last but not the least... The Awareness Activity!
Think of ways to promote reduction of food waste.

Ans. There are innumerable ways to promote reduction of food wastage, they are:
- We can organize campaigns demoting food wastage like the Food Recovery Challenge, by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) or at least be a part of them.
- Compost food waste: Composting the food is very essential as it also allows us to nourish the plants, apart from reducing food wastage.
- Distributing the leftovers to the needy: Distributing the food which would otherwise be wasted, to the needy will fill their stomachs and their heart.
- Educating and encouraging the citizens of our country to prevent food wastage: Half-an-hour lectures on reducing food wastage will be helpful.
- There are a few recipes to utilize excess food in a new way. We can 'Recreate the Recipes'.
- We must always start from our home. We must bring revolution in our houses, only then will we able to make a difference in the society, so first convince the family members to reduce food wastage.
- We should also get rid of any foul superstitions regarding food.
- Last but not the least, we should contact the Robin Hood Army (or any other organization saving food) and give away the leftovers to be donated to the hungry later.
