About Us
We have chosen the topic 'Saving Energy at School' because it has now become a need for the betterment of our society .We started at school because school is closest to us as students. Our tagline 'Energy Emancipators' implies that our groups aim will be saving energy wherever possible and also try to spread awareness about saving energy. We will work as saviours and find alternative resources for non-renewable sources of energy.

OUR SCHOOL
Our school has five floors including the rooftop. On the fifth floor we have two computer labs, staff room and classrooms. On the fourth floor we have a library, a chemistry, biology and physics lab, a staff room and classrooms. On the third floor we have lots of classrooms. Moving on to the second, we have a staff room and again lots of classrooms. On the first floor we have the same rooms as that of the second floor. And finally on the ground floor we have a multipurpose hall, a canteen, basketball court, a football court and a racing track. Also on the ground floor we have the reception and the Principal's office. On each floor we have a staff room except the third and the ground floor but with the name "Path Finders". Our school has huge solar panels on the roof of the school for solar electricity. The excess energy generated is stored for further use. Our pre-primary section has 256 boys and 280 girls. In total we have 536 students in the pre-primary section. Our primary section has 406 boys and 391 girls. So the total is 797 students in the primary section. And finally our secondary section has 952 boys and 423 girls. In total we have 1375 students in the secondary section.
LETS KNOW MORE!
Joule : It is a unit of work of energy. One joule of work is said to be done if a force of one newton is applied on a body and moves it by one meter.
kW: It is a unit of energy. One kilowatt is equal to 3600 kilo joules.
Watt: It is a unit of power and it is use to quantify the rate of energy transfer.
Main research question- How can energy be saved at school in the most effective way?
Whenever we want to make a difference it is very important that we start at base level. Therefore, we think that it is important to start our aim of saving energy, at school. There are numerous ways of saving energy like making use of renewable resources. There may be some limitations while saving energy at school, but it certainly does not stop us from achieving our goal.
KEEP READING TO KNOW MORE ABOUT SAVING ENERGY
1. Does your school have a policy for saving energy? If so, give a
short summary of this policy.
Yes our school has a policy. We primarily use solar panels to generate electricity. Our school also uses LED lights in all the classrooms which help in saving energy as they have less resistant.
2. Come up with at least three aspects that you think should be
included in the policy of your school to save energy.
-Power monitor- We can appoint a student as a power monitor who looks after the conservation and proper usage of the energy in each classroom. He can also discuss the issues related to power saving and find solutions with everyone to conserve energy.
- We can create a device which will switch off when there is no movement in the rooms and get turned back on when it senses any motion again. This device will work like a MCB but it will not get switched off due to the fluctuation in current, rather it will switch off when there is no motion. It can be applied in classrooms and bathrooms in schools.
- We can make use of the compost and food waste to generate biogas which will produce electricity. This will be renewable and efficient.
- We may make use of the water from the tap or the flushes to create hydroelectricity. To increase the pressure of the water we may adapt devices which increase its speed and pressure.
4. Estimate the amount of energy that can be saved by these
methods.
By using the methods mentioned above we can save a huge amount of energy. We can calculate the amount of energy by keeping in mind all the fans ,lights and computers in each classroom. If we say that the device uses 5 watt of energy then according to the number of appliances in each classroom the energy consumed will be less than before.

- Water harvesting will not only help the school to We should promote water harvesting as the water is stored on the surfaces which eliminates the amount of electricity used for transporting the water. It also saves energy as it has to maintain a central water system.
- We should also include biogas for generating electricity
- We must also introduce motion sensors

Interviews
We had the opportunity to interview one of our school authorities - Mr. Ganesh Naidu. He was very prompt to agree for this interview and we are also very appreciative for his time and this interview.
According to the questions that we had asked he provide us with the required information. His opinions for saving energy are that saving energy not only helps us to have a better future , but also allows us to breathe clean air. He explained that our school has a policy to save energy. We use solar panels as the main source , but he also mentioned that we get the electricity through varying sources, the sunlight being the main source. We also use LED's which consume less energy as compared to normal lights and bulbs. The sources that we use to save energy is recycling of waste and using solar energy. Other schools should also promote the same for reducing emissions and for cleaner air quality and it also helps for building a healthier planet. Saving energy saves the costs and expenses of the school, students should also be encouraged for saving energy by which they will get a opportunity to learn to save energy. They can do it by following all the norms. Another very useful and expensive way to save energy is using motion sensors.
INTERVIEW WITH 10 STUDENT
This year has been quite a strange one ,but we have adapted ourselves to the 'new normal'. We have been in lockdown due to the novel COVID-19 virus. Hence, al of the interviews were it be taken virtually. It was a unique experience to interview the students and authorities online even if it would have been more lively at school.
We interviewed 10 students from different grades and varying age groups form 12-16 years. We asked the same questions to the students as we wanted to analyze the opinions of the students of different age groups and places based on the same topic. According to the interview we could conclude that most students were well aware of the importance of energy and would also strive for the conservation of energy. The students, when asked about different methods through which schools save energy, they answered ; by the use of motion sensors where the lights will be used only in the presence of some motion, by using the compost to generate biogas and other options. One of the students also shared with us an information from a school in a village which she had visited. She said that they did not use electricity for an hour or so and studied in the nature.

"Saving energy is our job"
FIRST VIDEO CONFERENCE (04/11/2020)
The first video conference held on 4th November 2020 was a successful event. It was the first time that we got to meet our partner school from Netherlands. The go green members from Pawar public school had joined online from their respective houses while the students from the partner school were present from their classroom and few of the students attended from their homes due to COVID-19 precautions and restrictions. We had the opportunity to introduce ourselves and know each other. It was nice to get to know the teacher and the students. We also has a song performance and depicted our culture through them. The students were able to communicate and put forward their questions about each other's countries or surroundings. Overall it was a great experience and we look forward to meeting them again
SECOND VIDEO CONFERENCE (03/02/2021)
The video conference held on 03/02/2021 was a great interaction between the students of India and Netherlands. Due to the spread of the new mutation of coronavirus the students in Netherlands were not together at school but they joined individually from their respective homes. The students were well prepared and asked each other perfect questions! It was great to see everyone's curiosity in each other's culture, nature, school, food etc. We got to ask questions, share our views and research with our partner school. Our group, The saving energy at school group, was very excited to learn about new things and gain knowledge from our friends. We discussed our topics and expressed our views on the same. The Teachers were very happy to see the interaction between the students . Many of them wished that we could travel to each other countries very soon and also that we would be free of this current situation. We got to know many new things about their country , government, and food from each of the students. At the end we also shared why we would like to visit each other's countries. Overall it was a great experience and we were so happy to see the engagement and participation of each and every person in the video conference. Our group is applied to be a part of this project and we hope that we will keep learning and teaching.
WHATSAPP CONVERSATION WITH PARTENER SCHOOL
SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES BETWEEN GO-GREEN 2, SAVING ENERRGY AT SCHOOL (INDIA AND NETHERLANDS)
SIMILARITIES
- Both groups of India and Netherlands had the same objective to reduce the energy consumption at school and aim to save energy at school.
- Both groups have mentioned accurate points related to the methods of saving energy at their schools.
- Both groups have conducted interviews of 10 students related to saving energy .
DIFFERENCES
- Our side includes different images of group members, school buildings and clips of introduction video but they have not put much of any images but their website looks very pretty and it.
- We have taken the interviews of the students and the company but they have converted into text and we have done both video and text form
- In our school everyone is aware of solar panels that I installed a school but their 60.0% of students don’t know how to save energy ( as mentioned on the website)
We appreciate the method they have mentioned on the website as the winters are really cold and it’s the school make sure not to use heaters to keep the room temperature warm and nice for students and staff. They make sure to close all doors and windows so that the heat do not escape. They also have mentioned an idea to insulate the walls so that there isn’t as much of heat loss( explain nicely on their website with using diagram)
REFLECTION
Knowledge is one of the highest form of human characteristics. Through wisdom, virtues can be brought to life. The beauty of wisdom is that it is not dependent on the theories that are written in books, or the curriculum in the schools and colleges. It is not something that can be transferred just by talking about it. Wisdom is how life shapes us. It is about the impacts we have upon our soul while going through all sorts of pleasant and unpleasant experiences of life. Wisdom is the germination of seeds of empathy, compassion and kindness. It is the eruption of unconditional love towards every soul, whether human beings, animals or trees. Wisdom gives us the ability to see the beauty and true power of nation.
We enjoyed this wonderful project and learnt a lot of things from this project and the research done by us. It was an amazing way to communicate, work and co-ordinate with our sister school of the Netherland's. EUMIND had us explore various new subjects and it allowed us to carry out our research even while sitting at our home. We could collaborate with people far-far away from us. We were not to do anything differently as the whole project was well planned and executed. We were also able to connect with their thinking and their perspective about saving energy. We came to know about various measures of saving energy at our school that are used worldwide and are very useful.
